On 18 September 2020, Cluj-Napoca signed a pledge to principle 1 of the European Pillar of Social Rights, stating its commitment to education, training and lifelong learning.

Cluj-Napoca is committed to make its innovation and education policies more inclusive by:

  • Creating the C-Edu-Cluj Education cluster to support the local ecosystem to innovate in education, working in partnership between the city administration, universities, local businesses, civil society NGOs and citizens
  • Social innovation through the EU-funded Urban Innovative Action project to prepare people, including students, the low-skilled and the marginalised, for the future of work and digital transformation
  • Building capacity of the social and medical services of the city to detect, prevent and support people at risk of social exclusion due to lack of skills or digital skills

The Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc, said: “Education is the only city investment where the risk of bankruptcy is zero. Innovation cannot exist unless it is inclusive. The way our city invests today in education is the way our community will look tomorrow”.
